Please Don’t Accent The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, Nana!
Dear President of Ghana,
I am writing to respectfully urge you not to assent to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill that has recently been passed in Ghana. It is important to consider the human rights implications and the impact that such a bill could have on the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.
As a beacon of democracy and human rights in Africa, Ghana has the opportunity to show leadership in promoting equality and non-discrimination for all its citizens. Criminalizing individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity goes against the principles of inclusivity and respect for diversity that are fundamental to a just society.
I encourage you to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, human rights organizations, and legal experts, to ensure that any legislation passed is fair, just, and in line with international human rights standards.
Please consider the implications of this bill on the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals in Ghana and the message it sends to the rest of the world. I urge you to stand on the right side of history and protect the rights and dignity of all Ghanaians, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Saeed Ibrahim
